Spending as much time as she does in the Nexus, Adia often has to play catch-up when she returns to her ship. Where are they in space? Are the Cylons any closer to the Fleet?

How much progress have they made towards finding Earth?

She usually asks one of the ship’s crew. They are always so engrossed with their duties that they never notice her absence or wonder at her obvious questions. But this afternoon, it is the crew who is absent, and Adia walks the halls alone, fretting over where everyone has gotten to.

Her search leads her to the entertainment room, where she finds not only the crew, but everyone else on board, including her friends Maggie and Seth. They wave her over, Maggie rising from her seat despite the awkwardness of her pregnant belly. “Girl, where have you been? Captain Sousa called an all-hands over an hour ago so we could watch President Roslin’s address on the vid comm.”

Adia laughs nervously, fingers twisting into the ends of her scarf. “I, um… I was really wrapped up in my work?” Maggie gives her a skeptical look, but otherwise doesn’t comment, much to her relief. “What’d I miss?”

“We found the Eye of Jupiter,” Seth says before Maggie can answer. She glares at him, but he just laughs and pats the spot she vacated. “Yeah, yeah, you wanted to tell her. Stop fussing over her and sit back down. You, too, Adia, pull up a chair so we can fill you in.”

“You’re skating on thin ice, Mister,” Maggie grumbles, but rejoins her boyfriend on the beat-up couch while Adia drags over the closest chair and sits opposite her friends. She’s eager to hear more about the beacon for the thirteenth colony, and Maggie does not disappoint. “It was in a temple on that algae planet, the one orbiting the star that went supernova. The military got there just in time and snatched it away from the Cylons.”

“The Temple of Five,” Seth interjects. He’s smiling, unable to hide his excitement. “Like it says in the Sacred Scrolls. It’s sending us to the Ionian Nebula.”

“Probably to another marker,” Maggie huffs, although she’s smiling, too. “I don’t know why they had to make their location such a puzzle… Adia? You okay?”

Adia blinks, then exhales slowly, fighting off her dizziness. “Sorry… I didn’t think I could go into shock from good news…” The color returns to her face and she laughs. “It’s real, isn’t it? Earth? This is the proof.”

Maggie’s smile softens. She leans over and pats the other woman’s knee. “You had your hope in the right place this whole time, hon. Earth’s real.”

Adia laughs again out of joy and relief. All the people she has met in the Nexus, all from different Earths… and now her universe has one of its very own.

Seth watches her with a fond smile on his face, then sighs and exchanges a look with his girlfriend. “That wasn’t the only news in the report. They found Baltar, too.”

“He was with the Cylons, alive and well.” Maggie screws up her mouth. “Slimy little frakker… if you ask me, he doesn’t deserve a trial… oh, and apparently that hybrid human-Cylon baby didn’t die at birth, after all. She had been kidnapped by the Cylons, but her mom got her back. The good Eight, the one they call Athena.”

“…what?” Was she in the Nexus longer than she had thought? Adia stares at her friends, dumbfounded. “I thought that wasn’t possible, that we weren’t compatible.”

Maggie shrugs. “Looks like we are, just not very often. The girl’s name is Hera, they’ve been calling her the most important child in the Fleet.”

Seth pats Maggie’s belly and smiles proudly. “Well, at least until little Jason is born.” Maggie laughs and rewards him with a kiss, leaving Adia to her own scattered thoughts. Was Baltar a prisoner of the Cylons, or had he been collaborating with them? What did the Cylons want with a hybrid child, and what made her so important aside from the uniqueness of her genes?

One thing at a time, she decides, relaxing into her seat, her warm glow of hope returning. She can worry about their fallen former president and Cylon genetics later. Right now, she’s going to bask in the knowledge that Earth is real.

And they’re heading for it.
